The Environment and You (E & You) marked its last year in June 2014. The 6-year project was in partnership with Curriculum Development Division (CDD) in the Ministry of Education. It emphasizes the integration of Environmental Education in the classrooms, within the school compound and field visits. Through E & You, various teaching and learning materials were developed and are currently shared in the Virtual Learning Environment of 1BestariNet, accessible to more than 10,000 schools.

Eco-School Programme (ESP) is a student-centred certification programme is in its third year in Malaysia. WWF-Malaysia is the National Operator of the ESP and it runs in partnerships with various government agencies, higher learning institutions and NGOs. To date there are 86 participating schools in ESP throughout Malaysia, with 2 achieving Green Flag awards, while 9 achieving silver and bronze awards respectively. ESP prides itself in making student empowerment as its main focus. Students are empowered to take action to improve their school surrounding-leveraging on environmental sustainability approaches.

After working with a community-based organization for 10 years, WWF-Malaysia and WWF-Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alliance of the Indigenous Peoples of the Highlands Of Borneo (FORMADAT) on 26 March 2014. This is to forge a stronger and formal partnership on community engagement in the Heart of Borneo (HoB). Under the MoU, the organizations will collaborate towards achieving a sustainable future in the highlands of HoB.

Sarawak’s highlands community in Ba’ Kelalan joined the global environmental initiative, Earth Hour, by turning off their generator-lit lights. The celebration included talks, dance and music performances. To the people, it is Earth Hour every hour in the highlands as they use a mixture of hydropower, solar and evening-time generators for power. The event showcased to the world on the community’s sustainable lifestyles and commitment to living within the limits of the environment.
